On Thursday, February 17th,2011 Michael Vick was scheduled to shoot his first on air appearance with the esteemed Oprah “Midas Touch” Winfrey. We heard that the interview was canceled by the Vick camp today. Many people thought this was a bad move for Vick canceling on Oprah. I say…good riddance. Michael Vick is an All-American Football player. Fans don’t need him on Oprah crying about what he did four years ago. He went to jail paid his debt to society and maybe bought a dog or two along the way. Let’s move on!!!. Many people feel that it is the perfect time for Vick to be on Oprah as she wraps of her last season. Yes, maybe it’s perfect for celebrities that are fighting for a comeback or those who never had a chance to grace the stage when Oprah’s show was consistently holding the number one spot. Now that Oprah is fixed on promoting her new network OWN we are seeing a barrage of B-list celebrities and now apparently athletes that perhaps Oprah thinks needs to clean up their image. Do I care? Not really and any real eagles and/ or Vick fans don’t care either. So, while many people like my colleague may think the name of the game is PR. In actuality the name of the game is football and as long as he is catching, passing and for my personal pleasure bending over. Let’s finally put this thing to rest. Now I know your probably thinking with Oprah’s help he can earn back some of his endorsements. But you know what I like my players like this, too many endorsement I feel take away from their grit and hunger. So let Oprah stick to entertaining her core audience of stay at home moms who I bet consist of more dog lovers than football fans
Wow. Michael Vick made big mistake by snubbing the Oprah interview.
Yes...he made his mistakes 4 years ago with the whole dog fighting thing and the atrocities of the treatment of the pooches. And yes...he has served his time, lost part of an outstanding professional football career and he lost and paid millions of dollars in violations and voided contracts.
He has since been a model citizen and spokesman against animal cruelty. He took a paltry non-guaranteed contract to be a 3rd string quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and has been an unselfish teammate. He took that opportunity and skyrocketed to starting QB last year and finished 2nd in NFL MVP voting. He has just been signed to a $16M contract...for just next year.
Vick has come full circle in football. He is no longer vilified by the animal-huggers. Mike gets the final pay off...the grace of the Big O.
Just being on her show will boost his credibility across America with the non-football watching public that has no idea of his on field greatness.
As much as he is a handsome man to you ladies who looks good in the uniform and as much as he is the one-of-a-kind athlete that is a highlight waiting to happen to the guys, he is even more than that.
Michael Vick is also a brand. A brand that fell and been resurrected. Oprah is the final piece. For all he has paid...let him collect on that Oprah Midas Touch!!!
